Baselworld 2013, the World Watch and Jewellery Show

Each spring, some 1800 companies from the watch, jewellery or precious-stone industries set up themselves at Baselworld to show their latest pieces and innovations in Basel.

For some years, the watch world design has changed with the luxury French Maisons. Today, watches are real pieces of arts: jewellery and wacth sectors are one.

This year, from April, 25th to May, 2nd the 23th edition of the show has attracted more than 13,000 vistors from the entire world that is not surprising because for the first time, the Swiss watch sector has known a record year: the sector would exceed CHF 20 billion!

The experience is unique: once again, the 16 luxury brands (Chanel, Boucheron, Dior, Vacheron Constantin etc.) that exposed their new magnificent pieces – of art – mixing classic and creativity in a perfect way. This is the place to be to discover the biggest luxury brand, the current trends and the latest creation from the luxury watch and jewellery sectors.

Schwartz’s Deli, when Ashkenaze gourmet meets Parisian style…

Schwartz’s, located in the 4th Arrondissement of Paris “the Marais”, one of the most magical district in Paris, is an institution for the French Ashkenaze Culture.

There is such an amazing atomosphere in this reproduction of a real American Delicatessen in Paris. Schwartz’s Deli has at the same time the best location, the best decoration, and the best burgers & Pastrami sandwiches. I am totally fan of this restaurant: they serve good quantity with a price rather reasonable.

They propose a very tasty Brunch on Sunday, and one of the best coleslow in Paris as well. It is not a choice anymore, you have to test one of their original burgers, mixing french and american culture! Have a try with the ” Parisian burger”, which is the fabulous meeting between hamburger and French Tartare.

Delicatessen, from Germany, “delicious dishes”, is totally appropriate for this one. In fact, it is at the same time a New York Jewish institution, where you will recognize the traditionnal Ashkenazee gourmet, and a very tasty butchery. Do not hesitate to test the dessert if you have some time and still some space

The Qatar launched his luxury brand

The Luxury of the Qatar Foundation division will launch its own brand: QELA.

The State of the Qatar is a very rich country, thanks to its numerous natural resources including oil. The Qatar is particularly present in the medium of luxury through its “Qatar Luxury Group” division owned by the Qatar Foundation.

An opening at the Qatar then an extension in Europe, Asia, and the United States.

QELA first shop opened so in Doha, the Qatar capital, before end of 2012. In 2013, the luxury shoe plans to settle in Europe with shops in Milan, Paris and London, in the United States with stores in New York and Los Angeles and in Asia with a shop in Tokyo.

A real American bakery in Paris…Berko

A lot of people could think that French cakes are always better and tastier than americans ones. But I challenge anybody to try Berko. It is not just a bakery, but a real trip in the American Dream at the heart of Paris. When I have entered for the first time in Berko, it was a special week exhibition in Gallerie Lafayette and I was stunned by the numerous varieties and the beauty of the cupcakes…

The cheesecake is just impressive & delicious. Honestly, it could compete with the most famous bakery in New York! It was a real freshy air to feel living in the US in just 15 minutes from home…in Paris. I think all american lovers will start to be starving and will thank me after reading this post… I’m too generous to keep all that food for me

La Cité de la mode et du design continues his programming outside the walls at the Docks – City of Fashion and Design, with the presentation of a new exhibition model – the body of the mode from 16 February to 19 may 2013.

The model is a key contributor to the dissemination of the mode. Created by and for it, it embodied the contradictions of an industry torn between creation and commerce, which is one of the main activities to produce images. The first photographs of the 19th century in the pages of magazines, advertisements to videos, the model is reproduced to infinity.

2013 is the year of Snake for the Chinese people. Several luxury brands have launched new products for the theme of Snake Year.

The snake necklace from Tiffany & Co. is designed by Elsa Peretti that is made of 18K gold. This is a handmade necklace designed by experienced artisans to show the extremely elegance of the snake style.

Luminor Sealand is the fifth serial designed for the Chinese Zodiac by Panerai since 2009. The inspiration of the Luminor Sealand is derived from the traditional Chinese art Paper-cut. The pattern on the surface of the cover is engraved with hundreds hours of artisan labor. The watch is a limited edition available in only 100 pieces.

The “Cabinet de Curiosités” from Boucheron demonstrates a fabulous yet wacky huge snake that coils around fingers or wrists. The snake’s tongue is extendable for formal occasion.

Piaget launched Altiplano 38mm enamel painted watch to celebrate the Chinese Year of Snake as well. The shell is made of rose gold inlayed with diamonds all around it. The thickness of the watch is only 2.1mm but has the power of 40 hours energy.

In the beginning of 2013, a magnificent engagement was taken between Swiss Swatch Group and Harry Winston, the luxury American Jeweler brand on 14^th Jan.

Besides Tiffany & Co. watches, world’s No.1 finished watches manufacturer Swatch Group acquires an another prestigious jewellery brand to penetrate jewel industry potentially. Meanwhile, Harry Winston Diamond Corp., the former holder of luxury brand Harry Winston, may focus its core business on mining as a structural strategy adjustment.

The acquisition sum amounts to US$ 750 million plus the assumption of up to US$ 250 million of pro forma net debt.

When Luxury Goes Green: Gucci’s Amazon Bags

Ethical issues and world’s sustainability are growing concern in luxury sector as well. Green products are getting more and more popular with the reputable designers like Stella McCartney.

World’s first bags that are made from zero deforestation-certified Amazon leather. These bags will feature an inner label embossed with the “Gucci for Green Carpet Challenge” script. Moreover, fashion house has pledged to donate 50,000 euros to the good folks at National Wildlife Federation, an organization that works to promote sustainable, ecologically-sourced Brazilian leather.

This brand new green-line will be available in selected Gucci flagships stores worldwide and on gucci.com from February 2013.
