In 1936 Auguste Michel, hatter, creates his own home Maison Michel at 65, rue Sainte-Anne in Paris. In 1968, Pierre Debard took over the company with his wife, Claudine Debard. It challenges old machines Sewing Service straw, Weissmann, to design huge hats that the seam is invisible. These large-brimmed hats seduce fashion designers, including Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent in 1975.
In 1980, Maison Michel oversees the haute couture collections and ready-to-wear from renowned brands such as Chanel, Givenchy, Nina Ricci, Guy Laroche, Lanvin and Christian Lacroix. In 1996, Chanel acquired Maison Michel, making the hat of one of its 11 workshops Craftsmanship.
In 2005, two years after the death of Peter Debard, requests made to the claw diversify. To specific clients and high fashion designers joined the entertainment world.
Since the appointment of Laetitia Crahay at the head of the artistic direction of Maison Michel, in 2006, the brand has continued to evolve, offering models combining expertise, technology and creativity. The house signature hats are constantly revisited in order to adapt to current trends.
